Mayor's Golf Day. Tredegar Mayor's Appeal Golf Event 2010

Saturday 9th October 2010 was my Mayor's Charity Golf Day held at Tredegar & Rhymney Golf Club. Well what a day it was! Even though the weather was cruel to us, blustery and poor visibility in parts, it still did not deter these hardened Golfers. An amazing 75 entered but only one woman was amongst them, Cllr Diane Rowberry, who was supported by Cllr Malcolm Cross and Cllr Mike O'Sullivan to form the Tredegar Town Council Team.

As I said the weather cast no cloud over the event and all the participants thoroughly enjoyed the day on the course and the prizes' presentation, with buffet, that followed. For many of the participants this was the first time for them to play on the Tredegar & Rhymney Golf Club course and there were many a compliment on how great the course and facilities are. At the end of the day the winning team was Mr A. Thomas, Mr D. Leeks, Mr J. Farr and Mr I. Jones, so big congratulations to them and well done to everyone who took part.

Many thanks to all that helped make this a special event, especially Will Price and the Committee at the Club. To hold such an event needs a lot of planning and organising and without their help and that of Cllr Malcolm Cross this event would never have happened. I must not forget those wonderful women - Sharon, Jean and Sandra Cross - for preparing and keeping the food supplied for the hungry golfers.

The aim of the day was of course to raise funds for my worthy Appeal which, as you are probably aware of by now, is in aid of Hospice of the Valleys. Thanks to the generous donations for the tee sponsorships, prizes, match entry fees and the raffle held on the day by the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Bernard Willis, a grand total of £1735.00 was raised. So once again thank you all for your kind donations, help, support and participation; I really hope you all enjoyed the day as much as I did.
