2015-2016 Cllr Geraint Meredith.

The Inauguration of Councillor Geraint Meredith as Tredegar Town Mayor and Councillor Jacqueline Thomas as Tredegar Town Deputy Mayor took place on Wednesday 6th May 2015. The short Service took place in The Council Chamber at Bedwellty House, Bedwellty Park and was followed with friends and family joining Cllr Meredith to congratulate him in The Carriage Room at Bedwellty House.

The Charity I have chosen for my Mayor's Appeal 2015-16 is the:-

Valleys Sands: Stillbirth and neonatal death charity

Valley Sands are a local support group offering emotional support, comfort and information if your baby has died during pregnancy, at birth or soon afterwards.  Their friendly and relaxed support meetings give bereaved parents, family and friends the opportunity to meet with those who have been through a similar experience.  This support is extended, beyond the local group meetings, by working with local hospitals to provide the best possible bereavement care for families when a baby dies.  Also provided to the hospitals, by Valley Sands, are Memory Boxes which can help a family capture moments to keep forever whilst giving them information on where they can access help and support.

Cllr Meredith said during his Inauguration speech "we want to build awareness of this group so it can be used by anyone needing them………..the loss felt is unimaginable and difficult to explain but if this year we can help just a few families it will be well worth the effort and to bring awareness is the key."

All monies raised via this year's Mayor's Appeal will go directly to the Valley Sands group to be spent in local venues, helping and supporting families affected by stillbirth and neo-natal deaths.

The support group meet on the first Monday of every month, 7pm to 9pm at Ebbw Vale Learning Action Centre and further information is available from:
