2012-2013 Cllr Andrew Cotton

The Inauguration of Councillor Andrew Cotton as Tredegar Town Mayor and Councillor Hywel Woolf as Tredegar Town Deputy Mayor took place on Wednesday 16th May 2012. The short Service took place in The Council Chamber at Bedwellty House, Bedwellty Park and was followed with friends and family joining Cllr Cotton to congratulate him in The Carriage Room at Bedwellty House. During Cllr Cotton's acceptance speech he announced the recipient of his Mayor's Appeal for his Year in Office. This year the Appeal is in aid of The John Hartson Foundation.

The John Hartson Foundation

"The John Hartson Foundation has been set up through the determination of John himself as he continues to battle through his horrendous ordeal, this is the character of the man, his main focus will be to openly offer his experience in going through a traumatic time since he was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer after ignoring a lump for 4 years. John admits himself that if he was aware of how easy it was to get checked and that Testicular Cancer is over 90% curable if caught early enough he probably would not have had to go through the brain operations, lung operations and over 60 sessions of chemotherapy.

The aims and objectives of the Foundation will be to raise awareness of Testicular Cancer and how easy and most of all how important it is to check yourself on a regular basis, the Foundation will also raise funds to provide cancer organisations more support throughout the UK.

The John Hartson Foundation is based in Swansea, Charity Number: 1135549."

Thanks then too must go to "Now & Then" who held a concert at The Rhyd Hall in aid of the Mayor's Appeal, they raised £365; and thanks to Family Finance for their gracious donation of £100.

Tredfest was a fabulous musical event and has raised a fantastic £1133.00p for my Appeal (included in the total to date figure above).

My Charity Golf Day was a hit, raising over £1700 from sponsorship, team entry and a raffle. Thanks must be extended to Tredegar and Rhymney Golf Club for graciously letting me hold the event there free of charge and for their excellent help and support to organise it. Also thank you to Cllr Cross for his relentless effiorts raising sponsorship. I, unfortunately, cannot swing a club so for the day I was the host but I can report from those who participated that the course brilliant and everyone throughly enjoyed the day.

Thank you to Malcolm Higgs, all the participants and venues for the Quiz Wizards donation of £478.27p. It was once again a fantastic, fun competition which as always is well organised by Malcom and well supported by the community. I was honoured to receive the funds raised by this annual event and can assure you all it is greatly appreciated.

A big thank you to everyone at Tredegar Ironsides RFC and their supporters for the bucket collection they held at their home match on Saturday 12th January 2013. They raised a fabulous £140.08 for my Appeal, thank you.
