Tredegar Mayor's Appeal in aid of Valley Sands and a Sensory Garden at Bedwellty Park

Tredegar-Mayor-Cllr-John-MorganDuring his term of Office, May 2008 to April 2009, Councillor John Morgan raised a total sum of £5817.97 for his appeal which this year was in aid of two different recipients - Valley Sands and to develop a Sensory Garden at Bedwellty Park.

Valley Sands aims to offer support, advice and bereavement packs/memory boxes to any mother, partner or family member of those that have suffered the loss of a baby. They hold support group meetings on the first Wednesday of every month at Aneurin Bevan House, Castle Street, Tredegar and anyone is welcome to attend whether they wish to discuss how they feel, just listen or shout and cry. A donation of £3000.00 from the Mayor's Appeal will be used to continue to offer their support to the families and the bereavement packs/memory boxes.

The remaining £2817.97 raised by the Mayor's Appeal will be used for a Sensory Garden at Bedwellty Park once the Park is fully restored and reopened to the public. The aim of the garden is to give anyone who has suffered illnesses such as strokes or heart attacks the opportunity to participate in gentle rehabilitation activities to help them on their road to recovery.

These funds were raised through fundraising events such as a Masquerade Ball, Rugby Match, Tea in the Park and raffle plus the generous donations from associations such as Tredegar and District Floral Arts Society, Tredegar R.F.C. Minis, Tredegar Round Table, and Tredegar Moose International.

A big thank you to all those who graciously gave not just money but their help and support in raising funds for this Appeal.
