Supporting National Charities

Fundraising Events

Tredegar Town Council is proud to say that it wholly supports National Charities not just by giving them small grants but, where and when possible, by also participating in their National Fundraising Events.

Help for Heroes Appeal

As Tredegar Town Council planned 2010's Armed Forces Day to be more of a family event this year and held it at Parc Bryn Bach it was felt it was the appropriate time to help raise funds for the Help for Heroes Appeal. Thanks to the kinds donations of participants and visitors an amazing £1119.43 was raised. This could not have happened without the kind and generous voluntary work from local organisations so it must be said that this day was a success due to the wonderful people of Tredegar, "a big thank you" to everyone - see the Armed Forces Day page for further information.

Kidney Wales Foundation

2011 - Once again we at Tredegar Town Council are proud to have organised the Annual "Walk for Life" in aid of Kidney Research Wales.

We were lucky to have a dry day on Sunday 27th March 2011, and everyone had remembered to put their clocks forward the night before!

This year the Walk attracted people from outside the Town and as far afield as Crickhowell and Treharris. Our thanks to all those who came to Parc Bryn Bach to support the Walk, from young Ryan Howells from Gelligaer who had raised over £140, to the Schofield family from Crickhowell who raised £435 online and came to Tredegar to join our Walk.

Money raised from the Walk for Life is used to make a difference to children and adults in Wales who suffer with kidney disease and renal failure. Life on dialysis is extremely difficult and some are so ill they will never get the chance to be put forward for a life saving kidney transplant.

Amongst the walkers were a number who had received treatment for Kidney problems, including Margaret Barrett from Cwm and her friends who have raised over £500. The Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Bernard Willis presented certificates to all those who took part and photos taken on the day can be seen at this link Walk for Life 2011.

It certainly looks as if we've raised more than the £685 we made last year, as soon as the final figure is in it will be published on this website.

Many thanks to Communities First and Bethan Cartwright, Town Centre Manager, for the use of the gazebo, but most of all a great big thank you to all those people who took part and helped raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

2010 - For the last few years Tredegar Town Council has participated in the sponsored Walk for Life which was usually held at Bedwellty Park. But due to the refurbishment closure of Bedwellty Park, this year on Sunday 28th March 2010 the Walk for Life was held at Parc Bryn Bach. The beautiful setting and pleasant weather made the event seem like a gentle ramble and thanks to all those who participated, or just sponsored the walkers; a fabulous £685.00 was raised for Kidney Wales Foundation. Thank you all for your wonderful support and we hope you will be joining us again next March.

Spinal Injuries Association

2010 is the first year for Tredegar Town Council to participate in this sponsored event which was a Fish & Chip Supper. Cllr Bernard Willis took the reins for the organising of this event which was held on Saturday 19th June at The Firs in Tredegar. We must say the fish and chip supper was lovely and with a quick raffle a fabulous £281.00 was raised. Once again thanks to everyone for their support.
