Council Activities

The range of activities that Tredegar Town Council supports various immensely, it ranges from the Council establishing its own event or sponsoring local societies and clubs.

Armed Forces Day

2009 was the first year Tredegar Town Council participated in an Armed Forces Day.  All be it a small event it still gave the respect and recognition deserved to all the Armed Forces members, and their families, for their brave service to our country.  Using this first event as the foundation stone, 2010 saw Tredegar Town Council move the event to Parc Bryn Bach as a family fun day and used the event to raise funds for the Help For Heroes Appeal.  Following the success of these two years, Tredegar Town Council is continuing to show its support for our Armed Forces by making this an annual event.

Band Concerts

In the summer, the Bandstand in Bedwellty Park is the venue for a series of Sunday afternoon concerts featuring prominent brass bands and musical groups.  The season starts in June with Tredegar Town Band opening.  Any brass bands or musical groups interested in performing please contact our office. Details of dates, times and performing bands will be available on the DATES FOR YOUR DIARY pages as soon as they are confirmed.

Christmas Events

The Christmas Light Switch On organised by Tredegar Town Council over the years as included events such as roadshows and Santa with his sleigh.  In previous years the Lights Switch On has been run in conjunction with Tredegar Business Forum events taking place in the daytime prior to the Lights Switch on. Normally the Lights Switch On takes place either at the end of November or beginning of December - details of date, time and entertainment will be available on the DATES FOR YOUR DIARY pages as soon as they are confirmed.

Presentation Evenings and Commemorating Tredegar Residents

Presentation evenings are held in Bedwellty House to commemorate famous events such as the VE/VJ Celebrations in 2005 or to celebrate national and international achievements of Tredegar residents.

Tredegar Town Council presents mementos to local residents to celebrate and honour their magnificent achievements.

Grants

The Council also provides direct cash grants to the town's societies and clubs. The town has produced many excellent societies and clubs which, in turn, provide a diverse set of artistic, cultural and recreational activities not just for their members but also for a wider audience via public performances.

Any society or club from Tredegar may apply annually to the Council for a grant by completing a grant form which is available from the office or downloaded from this site. The form must be completed and returned to the Council offices with the most recent set of financial accounts the assocation as available.

N.B. First time applicants, it will be necessary for members of your society/club to meet with Members of the Council to discuss the aims of the society.  The Council would also view your financial statements such as accounts and bank statements plus your society's Constitution.  This will be a one off meeting.

Performing Arts

The Council supports the performing Arts through the 'Night Out' scheme of The Arts Council of Wales, bringing professional groups to the town to perform in neighbourhood halls and community centres.  Check our calendar or contact our office for dates and locations of future shows.
